Geeky jewelry

Just because we know our way around computers and social networks doesn't mean we don't like to wear shiny things.

Here is some fabulous geeky jewelry for the Facebook and Twitter crowd. It doesn't have to be retro to be groovy. Au courant can be groovy, too, as Survival of the Hippest so proves.

Self Portrait in Purple

We groovy people are pretty sure that someone wrote a letter to this little girl that said, "Send me a picture of you." She responded with this gorgeous self portrait in purple. How groovy is that?

Love Letters

What a groovy love letter. The boy loves McDonald's, and he loves Connie. Can't ask for more than that.

Food for Baby Astronauts

We knew that starting kids younger and younger on a career path gives them a competitive edge, but this beats all. Applesauce in a tube, so your baby can start preparing to be an astronaut!

We ate freeze-dried ice cream ("like the astronauts ate") and drank our Tang dutifully, but today's kids are lucky. Food in a tube! How groovy is that?

Everyone Wants to be Like Us

107.3 The Groove

Who would have thought a radio station would be groovy? I wonder where they got the idea. (Probably from reading this blog!!!)

Vacation

Who would dispute that changes in latitude bring changes in attitude? What is groovier than a tropical vacation when the work is done and you're chilled to the bone?

Skate Key

If you never had one of these, be very jealous.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was groovy. We're speaking, of course, about the young black MJ who sang and danced and made us smile. Not the pale, creepy, androgynous version that came later. God rest his soul. Amen.

The Price of a '37 Studebaker

We groovy people are not saying that the Studebaker is a groovy car. We'll reserve judgment for further consideration. This post is about the price of the car. We all know that things were cheaper in "the good old days," but consider this geeky (and groovy) statistic. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the $665 price tag of a brand new car in this 1936 ad is equivalent to spending $10,467.91 today. Can anyone buy a new car for "only" ten grand today? Bring back the groovy good old days! And the 5 cent cigar, while you're at it.

Mirror Ball Globe

With all the GPS and mapping capabilities available online, any school district that spends funds on maps and globes should be shuttered. Here, we groovy people believe, is the highest, best and grooviest use for the old globe stands.

Carbon Paper

Yes, Virginia, they do still make carbon paper. You can buy it at Staples. Who knew? How groovy.

Irony

We groovy people laugh at the irony - the unexpected. Creative, and clever, and a big "Well done!" to photographer Chema Madoz.

Playing With Your Food

Allegedly the largest work of art made from toast, this 16' x 16' Mona Lisa in Hong Kong is groovy. We Groovy People hope the artist didn't get scolded by his mother for playing with his food, because this is much more contributive to our culture than a guy buying fat pants for all the toast he ate, know whut I mean?

Landshark, Redux

We groovy people love this hat.

Wonky Visual Cues

What season is it? The pumpkins and red leaves say Autumn. The snowflakes and lights say Winter. H'mmm. Makes ya think. Ain't that groovy?

Trendsetters

Lady Ga Ga's Granny (ok, it's really Hedda Hopper) had no idea that she was ahead of her "Time." She was groovy before it was fashionable to be groovy. Trendsetters are groovy.

Flexible Calculator

If you need a calculator that is neither serious nor scientific, here is a fun, flexible, multicolored option. The colors blend wildly like the mystery flavor Dum Dums. Groovy.

Twins Separated at Birth?

Helpful Children

This is a helpful girl who taught Vacation Bible School classes so that her mom could go to a job interview. The children liked her so well, they asked her to come back again the next day!

Zelda Ocarina

The only thing groovier than having a 9-hole Zelda Ocarina is having a boy who can play the Zelda tunes on it. Watch for groovy Youtube links as they become available.

Field Day

We groovy people believe that *every* day is Field Day. And that is good. And groovy.

Playing on Escalators

Playing on escalators can be fun.... as long as you're careful. We can hear Mom now, "If you lose your toe on that thing, don't come running to me!"

Some movies define a decade. This groovy movie "is" the 80s.

Action Figures

We had art in school today. Did you know Van Gogh cut off his ear? We groovy people do not endorse Steve Martin's weight loss advice (lopping off body parts until you achieve your goal) but action figures are really groovy, for kids of all ages.

Lemon Pie

If Sammy thinks it's groovy, who are we groovy people to argue with him?

Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler

So you're standing along Main Street in some little town in lower Alabama, minding your own business, when here comes a parade. It has the JROTC carrying the flag, it has marching bands, truck bands, and six ginormous floats. Atop these floats are people who throw things at you. Like Moonpies. Stuffed animals. Beads. Lots o' beads. Shiny beads. Interesting beads. How groovy is that?

Good Moms, Great Moms

A good mom...
A great mom...

You know the joke.
It's groovy, like moms.

Homemade Cookies

Everyone knows that homemade cookies are groovier than store-bought cookies. For one, you can pronounce all the ingredients in these: (real) butter, sugar, flour, pecans.

In addition, Mom's cookies have a secret ingredient that factories can never duplicate: L-O-V-E.

We groovy people love these cookies.

In season or out of season, this bridge is a groovy place to socialize with our groovy friends.

Ralphie

We groovy people are not big fans of tattoos, but this one is particularly noteworthy. If we groovy people did like tattoos, we would like this one best.

Rope Light Nativity

Having sought unsuccessfully for several years to replace this rope light nativity whose lights were going out, Martha Stewart visited our home and patched in the darkened areas with clear rope lights wrapped in colored cellophane. At night, one can hardly tell the difference between the Live and the Memorex. Tres groovy, n'est-ce pas?
